Swiss+Tech 18-in-1 Initial Impressions
A first look at the Swiss+Tech 18-in-1 multitool. Is it a Leatherman Wave clone? Yes, but with a few features the Wave does not have, and with an interesting bead blasted finish. For less than $40 shipped, this multitool is probably worth considering for EDC.

Leatherman Wire Cutters Under the Scope
Переглядів 1,8 тис.7 місяців тому
Joe puts a optical comparator to work analyzing some measurements off the Leatherman wire cutters. The geometry of these replaceable tools was altered in 2021/2022 and were finally noticing. In the aftermath of wire cutters binding up plier heads and even breaking during reasonable use we hope that Leatherman will address the issue. In the meantime, let’s take a close up view of these cutters t...
I Was Wrong. My New Hard Wire Cut Technique and Attempt at Wire Stripping
Переглядів 7 тис.7 місяців тому
Joe finally got tired of reading “you’re doing it wrong, move the wire up”. He decided to do something about it, like, try cutting a wire that way. Will this simple technique revive the Leatherman Arc’s reputation? Or do the weird redesigns on Leatherman’s cutters simply generate more questions than answers? And what about the bitch as a built-in wire stripper? You can see more close up video o...
Leatherman Arc Returns From Warranty

Joe gets his Arc back from Leatherman’s Warranty department. The Social Media team at Leatherman reached out to ask if they could inspect his broken cutters, but otherwise the warranty process was completely standard. Has the Arc returned home stronger than before?

Leatherman Arc Review
Переглядів 12 тис.7 місяців тому
Joe gives his thoughts on the new for 2023 Leatherman Arc Multitool. It’s based on the Free series magnetic platform that Leatherman also featured in the Free and T series tools. The tools operate smoothly, but there are exceptions. Do you think this tool is worth the $230 USD price tag?
Leatherman Arc Pliers Broken by Coat Hanger Wire
Переглядів 8 тис.8 місяців тому
Joe shows how the notch in the wire cutters in the new Leatherman Arc multi tool is a disappointment and doesn’t belong on a premium tool, especially because Leatherman does not disclose this modification to the Free series Multitool platform anywhere on their packaging. These tools used to cut concrete nails and now coat hanger wire will destroy their function.

Yea I found that pocket clip on my Wave+ by accident one day...
If you’re going to try and do a review at least cover everything like the innovative and very effective catch for holding bits tight which would have wiped out your mediocre response to the bit holder! Then what you called the ‘gut hook’ is indeed a parcel opener. And a seat belt cutter. The slot in the file is to assist opening. You’re really not doing a thorough job. 2/10 - must try harder. Were Leatherman bit kits 2 dimensional like you said they wouldn’t work at all. This is really not good enough.
Thank you so much. This solved the problem!
Leatherman is lying because they don’t want to fix the problem with there design. This was up till now a great American company that we all could be proud of, shame on them for letting the American public down.
OMG, thank you so much for posting this!!!! I could not figure out how to close that darn knife and all those other tools back into the handle!!!! LOL I was going with force but then I gave up, too worried it would cut my finger off. I had it all exposed in the drawer wrapped in leather to eliminate cut injury in a case I forgot what I had in the drawer and just started going through stuff and uh-oh - sliced my finger! You saved me :-)
Great review! Torn now between which I would prefer to have out of this and a huntsman. I like that this gets rid of a couple of features I don't care for anyway.
No, the Roxon Flex exists, this is poorly thought out sheet metal
Wait a minute are you telling me you don’t know how to use a wire cutter? Because you clearly didnt use the wire cutter you used the stripper to try and cut the wire 🤦🏻♂️
I use this ink. I had not realized it was waterproof. Good to know. I'll be more likely to use it for envelopes. However, it *is* on the purple side, which I put up with. . No shading as you could see in this review. My bottle still feathers on some papers, so small cursive isn't as precise. My blue X-Feather is used here in an FPR (Fountain Pen Revolution) Himalaya (V#1) with FPR's #5 UltraFlex.
It has that little opening because people when they cut the hanger wire it flys off and has hit people in the eye so it’s a safety feature so u can just bend off the rest it’s smart . Stop complaining it may save one of your eyes one day . The arc is better than all tools I have them all it’s not even close . Best tool on the market .
Physics aint for everybody. Get the wire out of the pivot and try again.
ahaha. 20$ for pocket clip..
*_If you “don’t really know what you’re doing” you don’t need any tools._*
Im doing it, Ouch!!!!, i cut my jugular vein. Im suing you. Just buy me an #OE and a pack of #Newports and we’ll call it even. You’re welcome 🤣🤣🤣
I have only seen translucant red or blue scales before. I own a solid dark green Spartan. The see thru ones you have here look really cool.
Hey Joe I used the Arc as it was intended as a light hammer and both my bids fell out now I want to return it but I ordered a custom sheet from eBay what is the closest Leatherman multi-tool to the arcs size
The "gap" are wire strippers not a fault in the design. You simply put the coat hanger wire in the centre of the cutters and not in the hole. You are simply not using it correctly. This tool has plyers, wire cutters, wire strippers and a crimp tool all in one. You dont know what you are talking about. Edit: spelling
You still didn’t spell pliers right
The free series was a joke and the arc is half assed play for fast money. Either stick to the wave and surge BEFORE the replaceable cutters or the victorinox swisstool and swisstool x
So its better to get stainless steel over black models?
My cutters that came on a 2023 Surge broke on a wire thinner than that coat hanger. I have no idea how that happened. I thought they were supposed to bend if anything, that's why they switched from 154cm cutters, but mine not only bent but created a fracture that had the chip fall out when I swabbed out the bit of rust from the old wire I had to cut. This was a test & they were not used before. This blew me away.
Got the sp 300 and the only problem is the proprietary bits are garbage so you need to carry a bit extender and actual bits
You're too sensitive. Some of your replies to the comments left on this clip are quite brash. You're lucky anyone even watched this, let alone comment on it. Perhaps you're out of your wheelhouse. Do better.
The "gut hook" thing is a package opener. powerlitre is also great. Both tools need a wood saw, so I have to figure that out with t-shank jigsaw blades in the bit driver.
It's a flaw of a particular batch of cutters, not the tool itself. As such, it's an issue that can be found with any model with replaceable cutters. My brand new surge came with cutters with the exact same flaw, which is annoying, but not the end of the world since it gave me an excuse to mod some EOD cutters to fit (I have no need for hard wire cutting)
A little bit of schmutz on the inside😂
Ha3.. flaws for who don’t know how to use it.. its basically a wire stripper a**hole 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Picked up one today and love it. 👍
Wow. Look how the handles are spread wide apart for a such small bolt head. My Wiha adjustable wrench set wins for handle width in tight spaces. What website was that for patent?
I have the Bibury version - probably made in the same factory. It's a big, beefy, chonky boy, and seems to be pretty well made. I think the use of non-proprietary (and not terribly difficult to find) bits is a big plus. Home Depot sells a Husky brand screwdriver that uses them, and Walmart sells a Hart brand screwdriver that does as well.
Would this work as a keychain multitool?
I never used the can opener on my wave+, until last week my can opener broke and I had to learn how to use a manual can opener 😂
Thank you
A good alternative to this if you're out in the field and don't have the diamond paste is to soak your Leatherman in diesel fuel...... Doesn't take long, just pour some in a jar or cut the top off of a pop bottle and drop it in..... I guess there is just enough oil in diesel fuel to clean every millimeter of the tool even in between the tools.... The plier head will work smooth as silk again. Just dry it off with a rag and go for it....... WD40 and Blaster attract dirt particles and are not the best thing to use in a pinch......
I keep the lanyard ring and some 2mm rope connected to my lifejacket. The quick release function is nice to not drop my $200 knife in the ocean
CenterDrive, does everything I need it too. I am open to the SOG, it may end up in one of my kits. I haven’t used Leatherman in years. Ever since I found out they were lying about their products being made in the USA, they ended up in a lawsuit over it too. You can say whatever you want about Gerber, but when they stamp U.S.A on a product, they aren’t lying.
Is it stiff?
Great video, def payed more attention here than to my classes, pls keep posting videos like this about tip, tricks
Thank you for saving me two-hundred-some-odd dollars
Can anyone tell me how this tool is in an environment with fine metal filings ? Like grinding and cutting work. Does it attract it all and become a mess ?
Stick with any victorinox swisstool, cutters not replaceable but because of the build quality you can cut wire coat hangers all day long. 🤘
Isn’t that a wire stripper?
In tamil
My £40 Bibury doesn't have that problem
Hi
Bummer. I just noticed the same gap on my surge i just picked up a few days ago..😞
That's for wire stripping. It's the Leatherman.... "Arc" as in maybe suggesting some added electrical utility.
As a toolmaker myself, who used to be thinking constantly for solutions to many problems occurring metal working in dies and molding tools as well as machining I would love to give them some advice on changes in design and quality! Great review, would love to compare it to my decades old trusty Swiss Tool, but it indeed needs rethinking on some aspects! Well done!
Evaporust + steel brush gets rid of everything for me. Sometimes just WD-40 + steel brush is enough for light surface rust
